Problem
Pine Cipeles was a pioneering female figure in magazine design, shaping the language of editorial graphics. To honor her influence, I created a tribute in the form of a contemporary magazine that reimagines her legacy through modern layouts and visual storytelling.
Strategy
I decided to create a magazine tribute to tell a story of her life and accomplishments. The magazine should follow the same art direction of the magazines she created throughout her life.
Process
The project involved researching, moodboarding, and analyzing the artist’s signature style. After curating text and imagery, the main challenge was translating her unique blend of illustration and typography into a modern layout without direct imitation.
Impact
The projects received compliments and recognition as an effective tribution for Pine Cipeles. The final publication could blend old and new design ideas. From this project, I learned more about editorial design and how to study a designer’s work and style.
